RFID APPLICATIONS

The applications where RFID technology can be effectively deployed by Aster MicroElectronics are practically limitless. The availability of affordable RFID hardware and software systems is also rapidly expanding its usage in every conceivable field. Some of the areas where RFID readers and tags are being used commonly include: Person Identification, Parts Identification, Animal Identification, Vehicle Identification, Access Control, Automotive manufacturing, Library and rental sectors, Baggage tagging, Blood Analysis Identification, Food Production Control, Vehicle Parking Monitoring, Production Line Monitoring, Mass transit ticketing, Transportation/Distribution, Secured Area Monitoring, Supply Chain Management, Asset Management, Car Body Production, Parcel & Postal Services, Oil Pipe Identification, Valuable Objects Insurance Identification, Water Analysis, Timber Grade Monitoring, Road Construction Material Identification, Toxic Waste Monitoring, Pigeon Flight Monitoring, Machine Tool Management, Gas Bottle Inventory Control, Duty Evasion Stolen Beer, Barrel Stock Control ...and much more

Aster MicroElectronics can provide customised RFID hardware and software components for different domains.

Industrial Automation & Manufacturing Environment
In a manufacturing area, RFID systems are ideally suited for the tracking and identification of products moving through an assembly process (e.g., conveyor system in equipment production where the product is assembled, wired, brazed, painted and despatched). RFID systems are durable and essential for permanent identification of product packagings such as: Tote boxes, containers, barrels, tubs, and pallets, Tool carriers, free conveyor trolleys, Lift trucks, towline carts and automatic guided vehicles.

Transportation / Distribution
RFID systems are particularly useful in the rigorous transportation environment. Field programmable tags allow the full industry standard 12-character identification of each carrier by type, ownership and serial number. Tags may be attached to the vehicle undercarriage and RFID reader/writers located at a distance along with other control and communications equipment. In these applications the advantage is improved fleet utilization that permits faster logging of the carriers and thus improved turnaround times, compared to manual logging.
Commercial truck fleet operators are using RFID systems to monitor access to terminal facilities. Combined with weigh-in-motion scales, the same systems can be used for transaction recording at starting locales, delivery locations, or for transactions at truck stops and service centers.

Direct Product Identification & Tracking
For product identification solutions, the RFID tag specifically identifies the item to which it is attached (e.g., identification by part number or serial number or, in the case of read/write systems, assembly or process instructions for the item). For packet identification the contents may be identified manually and fed to the control system along with the packet's machine-readable RFID "license plate number." Subsequent tracking is accomplished by deploying RFID readers/writers in suitable locations.

Security and Access Control
The movement and use of valuable equipment and personnel resources can be monitored through RFID tags attached to tools, computers, etc. or embedded in credit-card-size security badges. This type of monitoring also provides an extra measure of security for personnel working in high risk areas in case of an emergency evacuation.
